Kristen Jackson, PhD is a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Rehabilitation Psychology, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC). She serves as the Attending Rehabilitation Psychologist on the CARF-accredited inpatient Spinal Cord Injury Service and the General Rehabilitation Service at Dodd Hall, located on OSU’s main medical campus. She also provides consultation to the OSUMC inpatient Burn Unit.
Dr. Jackson works with individuals who have experienced significant physical injuries to aid them in overcoming the emotional and cognitive challenges that can present during rehabilitation. Common areas of intervention include psycho-education, behavioral management, evaluation of capacity, adjustment to injury and rehabilitation, and chronic pain. Additionally, she provides outpatient assessments for patients at the Center for Neuromodulation who are considering spinal cord stimulators or other procedural interventions for chronic pain.
Dr. Jackson earned her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Saint Louis University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Cincinnati Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center, where she gained specialized experience in chronic pain rehabilitation and PTSD treatment. Following graduation, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, WA within the Rehabilitation Care Service Line, where she obtained specialized training with the Spinal Cord Injury Service, the Center for Polytrauma Care, and the General Rehabilitation Service.
Dr. Jackson’s clinical interests include the assessment and cognitive–behavioral treatment of adults with chronic pain, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), mood disorders, chronic medical conditions, and emotional adjustment to illness and disability. In addition, she has clinical and research interests in body image and weight management post injury, factors affecting health behaviors that can reduce secondary medical complications, and adjustment to spinal cord injury.
